About photovoice: dream africa

Dream Africa is a transformative initiative led by Algo Peers and ACIC that empowers youth in Cape Coast, Ghana and Atlantic Canada to reclaim their narratives, envision sustainable futures, and turn historical pain into pathways for progress.

This project harnesses the power of art, storytelling, and innovation to:

  • Amplify African Voices: Give voice to African experiences and perspectives both on the continent and in the diaspora.
  • Foster a Shared Vision: Cultivate a collective vision of a decolonized and empowered Africa.
  • Empower the Next Generation: Nurture a new generation of changemakers who will shape the future of the continent.

  • Youth-Led Transformation: Empower young people to shape their own futures and lead positive change in both regions.

Who Should Apply?

To apply for this program, participants will:

  • Identify as a female
  • Be between 18-30 residing in Cape Coast, Ghana or Atlantic Canada.
  • Be passionate about social justice, cultural expression, and community development.
  • Believe in the power of art, storytelling, journalism, and innovation to create positive change
  • Be a person of African descent (Including, but not limited to Black Canadians, People of African ancestry living in Canada, People of Afro-Caribbean ancestry, People of Afro-Latino ancestry)
  • Be available for approximately 2 hours/week over the course of 10 weeks between  January 2025 and March 2025, for Zoom / In-Person (for those in Ghana) sessions and program work such as taking photos, connecting with group members, and reflecting on the program process
  • Show interest in learning from others and sharing aspects of their own lived experiences, communities, and analysis with youth from other regions of Ghana, Atlantic Canada and other countries
